The Circle Method: Mastering Estimation
Updated April 24, 2026
In roundful.app, we simplify calories into Circles.
1 Circle ≈ 100 Calories.
Why? Because precision is the enemy of consistency. It is better to be 90% accurate every day than 100% accurate for three days and then giving up.
The Golden Rules of Rounding
"Not sure? Round up." If a sandwich feels like it's between 500 and 600 calories, give it 6 circles.
The Hidden Multipliers. A single tablespoon of butter or oil is 1.2 circles. A heavy splash of salad dressing is 1.5 circles.
The "Handy" Guide
- Palm of Protein (chicken, fish, tofu) ≈ 2–3 circles
- Fist of Carbs (rice, pasta, potato) ≈ 2–3 circles
- Cupped Hand of Nuts ≈ 1.5–2 circles
These are rules of thumb, not gospel. When in doubt, go higher — your weekly average will land in the right place.
